how to measure
For accuracy, always use a wood or metal rule/tape.
Decide whether you wish to fix your blind inside or outside the window recess. Inside the recess is the ideal position, but remember the recess must be deep enough for the blind to be fitted (at least 2" deep for roller blinds, 2" deep for venetian blinds, 4" deep for 3.5" louvre blinds, 5.5" deep for 5" louvre blinds and 2" deep for pleated blinds).

inside recess
Carefully measure the full recess width and drop at two points, as shown in figure 1 below. Give the smallest size in each case. Your blinds will be made with clearance to fit inside the recess.

outside recess
Decide how much you want to overlap the recess at each side and the top and bottom (the blind should ideally overlap by at least 3") and measure accordingly, see figure 2 below. Your blind will then be made to the exact size.
